Emmerdale actress Jane Cox has confirmed her departure as matriarch Lisa Dingle after returning to the village for the International Women’s Day special.

Jane Cox confirms Emmerdale departure
Actress Jane Cox has announced that she is leaving her role as Emmerdale’s Lisa Dingle after 23 years, with her exit storyline revealed during the special International Women’s Day episode. Jane made her on-screen return as Lisa revealed to Charity Dingle (Emma Atkins) that she had a terminal heart condition.
Speaking following the emotional scenes, Jane explained: “Lisa is so close to my heart as she’s been such a huge part of my life for the past more than 23 years. So I know I will shed more than a few tears when it comes to filming her final scenes.
“But I’m really looking forward to my return to the show to tell this story and to give the character of Lisa a deserving farewell. I will miss her.”

Mon 7 May 2018: Zak and Lisa Dingle are unable to avoid the inevitable conversation.
Lisa left Emmerdale in May 2018 to take on a new job in Scotland after splitting from ex-husband Zak Dingle (Steve Halliwell). Despite numerous family dramas including daughter Belle’s nightmare with boyfriend (serial killer) Lachlan White, Lisa has not reappeared in Emmerdale but has been mentioned in passing.
Jane’s on-screen partner Steve Halliwell, who has played Zak for nearly 25 years, has also taken a break from the show, having had a serious heart surgery, and although he didn’t appear in the episode, he was mentioned.
In Thursday’s episode, Charity Dingle (Emma Atkins) received a mysterious phone call, only answering with ‘hello stranger.’ Next time we see Charity is when she arrives at a cottage and starts to go through some photo albums and questions relating to planning a funeral. It is then the camera pans out to reveal that she is at Lisa’s house.
Lisa asked Charity to prepare her eulogy, before urging her not to tell the rest of the family about her diagnosis. Zak is already aware of what’s going on, but the couple’s daughter Belle (Eden Taylor-Draper) currently has no idea.
Emmerdale has revealed that both Lisa and Zak will return to the village later this year, as the popular characters integrate back into the Dingle family fold. The show will then explore the final chapters of Lisa’s life.
