Who is Kim Tate’s son Jamie in Emmerdale? Why don’t they speak?

A brief history of the village vixen's estranged offspring

Emmerdale's Kim Tate (Claire King) is set to be reunited with her estranged son Jamie after Graham Foster (Andrew Scarborough) handed over his number on in exchange for his bitchy boss dropping her vendetta against Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley) and Moira Dingle (Natalie J Robb), and the village vixen's icy heart melted at the mere mention of her offspring.

Graham confessed to the cops Joe Tate (Ned Porteous) was still alive, exonerating Cain for the crime he thought he'd committed and meaning he didn't have to sleep with Kim in exchange for his silence - despite the toxic Tate lying she had successfully seduced him to meddle in the moody mechanic's marriage.

As Kim threatened to track down Joe and kill him for real as revenge for trying to fleece her, protective Graham ordered her to back off and promised to give her info on Jamie as a bargaining chip…

Who is Jamie Tate in Emmerdale? Who was his dad?

Long-term fans may recall James was born in 1996 straight into a blockbuster 'Who's the daddy?' plot with Kim's cuckolded husband Frank Tate and toy boy farmhand lover Dave Glover both believing they had fathered the kid. Patriarch Frank was eventually revealed to be James's biological parent after demanding several tests.

When was Jamie Tate last seen in Emmerdale?

We're going back a bit - toddler James was on his mischievous mum's knee as they escaped the village in a helicopter after she went on the run for her many crimes in January 1999. When Kim made her brief return in October 2018 it was established she and Jamie were not on speaking terms as she begged Graham to track him down as she was sent back to prison…

Why does Emmerdale's Kim Tate not speak to her son Jamie?

"Kim and Jamie haven't spoken for a while," King teased to RadioTimes.com last year, discussing her on-screen son who would be aged 22 now. “Back when she was first in the show there were very few things Kim genuinely loved – James was one. Dave Glover, her dead lover was another, along with gamekeeper Seth Armstrong and her horses! Beyond that she had total disrespect for anything and everyone!” The root of their discord is not yet known, but could we be about to find out?

Who is playing Jamie Tate? When is he back in Emmerdale?

TV newcomer Alexander Lincoln will play the grown-up James who is estranged from his mean mum and has not been in touch with her for some time. Back in 1999 he fled with Kim (Claire King) in a helicopter, and returns to his childhood home in the coming weeks making what is promised to be an explosive entrance – but there is no love lost between the relatives.

“Jamie basically wants nothing to do with Kim,” says Lincoln. “He comes to the village to start a new job (his half-sister Zoe used to run the veterinary practice) and doesn’t even know his mum is out of prison. She tries to bring him back into the fold, even though he wants to distance himself from her and the Tate legacy.

“Unlike Kim, Jamie is innocent and naïve. He’s a good guy and is constantly saying he’s not like his mum, but can be easily manipulated by her.”

Kim is desperate to make amends with her boy and their relationship will show a rare vulnerability in the village vixen – has motherhood mellowed the minx? And could the bad blood mean he turns out to be her greatest foe?

Lincoln fills the posh totty vacancy left by Porteous, who departed last year, but he’s taking it in his stride. “I’ve been called the new village hunk which I didn’t even know was a possibility, but I’ll take it!” laughs the actor, who is embarking on his first major TV part after playing roles in some UK feature films and co-running his own production company, Lowkey Films.

But don't expect Jamie to automatically pick up where Joe left off and become the next love interest for Charley Webb's character Debbie Dingle, whose heart was broken by Joe - the actress reckons it's too obvious for Jamie to fill his step nephew's shoes. "I don’t think she’d go near him after everything that’s happened with Kim turning up and destroying her life and what happened to Joe. To go for her son would just be stupid - though maybe she could turn the tables, strings him along only to dump him!”

Emmerdale fans THRILLED as unexpected scene leaves them in stitches
Last night saw Rodney Blackstock and Eric Pollard become Emmerdale's latest comedy duo...

Emmerdale fans found last night’s trip to the Dales even more entertaining than usual after a scene between Eric and Rodney became the highlight of the evening.

While the Tuesday night episode was packed with the drama that we expect and love from Emmerdale – from Leanna and Gabby plotting trouble between Bernice and Liam, to Megan dumping scheming Frank – it seems a small scene between Eric and Rodney was the highlight for viewers across the nation.

The pair spent Monday night’s episode getting merry in the Woolpack – something that didn’t go down well with Faith Dingle, who Eric was supposed to be taking out for lunch.

But while drunk Eric and Rodney were certainly entertaining at the start of the week, that’s nothing in comparison to watching the pair nursing their hangovers last night.

With Rodney serving in the cafe while wearing dark glasses to hide his suffering, fans thought it was hilarious when Eric then arrived for a much-needed coffee, wearing matching sunglasses.

The hungover pair then went on to argue in comedy fashion about who drank the most whisky and about which of them is better at treating a lady right, but it was the soap’s nod to legendary musical duo, The Blues Brothers, that fans loved the most…

Thankfully for Eric, it looks like he might have made amends for his dating faux pas by dishing out the cash to Faith so that she could go to the salon for some pampering… but the same can’t be said for other romances around the village yesterday.

Not only were Leanna and Gabby determined to make Bernice look as daft as possible in front of Liam as they settled down for some afternoon tea, but Frank also found himself single after Megan discovered his latest con.
Marlon and Jessie were also on the rocks, with the chef thinking he was about to get dumped. Thankfully, it was all a big misunderstanding and Jessie finally revealed the real reason that she is struggling to commit to Marlon is because of the memory of her late husband.

As the pair made a huge step forward and went to scatter Jessie’s husband’s ashes together, could this moment mark a fresh start for the pair?

Emmerdale airs weeknights at 7pm on ITV, with an extra episode at 8pm on Thursdays.

Emmerdale christmas

Last year's Emmerdale festive episode mainly centred around Robert Sugden's crazy Christmas coma dream, but it sounds like the show will be sticking to reality this year. No chance of Val Pollard popping up again then, in that case.

Speaking earlier this month, Emmerdale's new executive producer Jane Hudson promised a festive wedding for one of the soap's couples but kept tight-lipped about further details.

Jane confirmed: "We have got a wedding at Christmas. I'm not going to tell you who but let's just say it will bring a different flavour to the village than you've had before."

Emmerdale legend Mandy Dingle to return with MASSIVE secret after 17 years!
Emmerdale star Lisa Riley has revealed she “couldn’t be happier” that her legendary character Mandy Dingle is heading back to the village in the New Year – with a huge secret!

Mandy, the ex wife of both Butch and Paddy, hasn’t been seen in the Dales for 17 years!
But this New Year fans will find out what Mandy’s been up to in her time away.

“I couldn’t be happier to be returning in the New Year to Emmerdale,” says 42-year-old Lisa. “It’s something I never thought would happen after 17 years and I am so interested to see what trouble Mandy is capable of causing. But mostly being back with all my old friends, it’s like I’ve never been away.”

Life seems calm before her return. Ex hubby Paddy has moved on long ago and is trying to focus on his relationship with Chas following the loss of their daughter. And the rest of the Dingles are living relatively quietly! So, what mischief and mayhem can Mandy cause?

Well, Emmerdale producer Kate Brooks teased that Mandy has a big secret and could cause a lot of trouble!

“Iconic Mandy Dingle returns to the village carrying a secret that turns lives upside down,” she said.

“She’s a character bursting with fun who certainly ruffles a few feathers during her short stint back in the village, and she clearly hasn’t lost any of the joie de vivre that made Mandy so popular and enjoyable to watch. We’re delighted to welcome Lisa back to Emmerdale.”

Since leaving the show, Lisa has enjoyed a string of roles including parts in Fat Friends, Waterloo Road and Age Before Beauty.

Lisa has also been a regular on ITV show Loose Women.

Emmerdale reveals a make-or-break Christmas storyline for Debbie Dingle

Will she spend the festive season behind bars?

Emmerdale has hinted that Debbie Dingle could be spending Christmas in prison.

Debbie will soon have to face trial for her role in Ross Barton’s acid attack, following her recent decision to confess everything to the police.

Thursday night’s episodes confirmed that Debbie’s trial will begin on December 14, just days before the festive season begins.

In a bittersweet twist, Debbie’s daughter Sarah Sugden (Katie Hill) has been told that she should be allowed home from hospital for Christmas as she’s recovering well after her heart transplant.

With so much at stake and Debbie potentially facing a tough sentence, could she end up spending Christmas away from her daughter?

Last month, Debbie told the police that she set Ross’s attack in motion by paying Simon McManus to beat up Joe Tate. Simon threw acid at Ross in a case of mistaken identity.

As Debbie didn’t ask Simon to use acid, she’s hoping for leniency in court – but whether she’ll get it is another matter altogether.

Charley Webb, who plays Debbie, recently explained: “That story has been a bit muddled and confused. Debbie never ordered the acid, it was just something that Simon did. Even though Debbie did want Joe to get beaten up for what he’d done, that’s a very Dingle thing to do.

"The Dingles get people beaten up all the time. Her dad is Cain and he’s a villain, so it’s natural territory for her for that to happen. But obviously it did go really wrong with the acid.”

About danger and Victoria

Emmerdale spoilers: Is Victoria Sugden in danger from nasty Leon?

Victoria Sugden would have been better off sticking with either Matty Barton or Ellis Chapman because her new fella, Leon has got a bad reputation.

However, despite warnings from friends and family, Victoria seems determined to prove everybody wrong about Leon and has been making her point by kissing Leon publicly in the pub.

Back at home, Victoria is still in a reckless mood and Leon decides to push his luck by trying to take things further. However, when Victoria warns him he’s getting a bit too handsy and to slow things down, he quickly shows his nasty side and starts verbally abusing Victoria.

As the pub chef fears she’s put herself in terrible danger from Leon, it’s clear he’s not going to leave until he gets what he wants. What will Victoria’s big brother Robert do when he arrives home to find Leon mistreating his younger sister?

Elsewhere in the village, after Cain Dingle’s angry showdown with a drunken Graham Foster over his treatment of Cain’s daughter Debbie, it’s clear there’s something big troubling Joe Tate’s right-hand man. But if anybody discovered just what, there’d be a whole lot of trouble!

Debbie’s younger brother Noah pushes Debbie to try and help Graham who is spiralling out of control. But will Graham open up to Debbie and reveal what really happened the day her fiance Joe seemingly “disappeared” on the day of their wedding?

But that’s not the only drama for Debbie to deal with. She’s got a pregnancy test kit! Is there a chance she could be pregnant with Joe’s baby?

Emmerdale spoilers: Dark child grooming story for Jacob Gallagher and teacher Maya Stepney?
Emmerdale looks set to be lining up a storyline that could see teacher Maya Stepney groom underage teenage schoolboy Jacob Gallagher, after it becomes clear that he has a crush on her. It has already been warned by Maya’s ex Liam Cavanagh and his daughter Leanna that Maya would bring drama to the world of David metcalfe – but just how dark are things set to get?

Jessie Grant already has concerns about her member of teaching staff flouting safeguarding guidelines to give Noah Tate a lift home in her car and the issue led to a defensive Jacob picking a fight with Noah.

Leanna soon picked up on Jacob’s evident crush on his dad’s girlfriend and she mocked him over it, little realising how deep he is actually falling. But as Jacob continues to get attention from Maya and basks in spending time with her, some fans are concerned that she might be well aware of what she is doing. Is she deliberately grooming Jacob?

Teasing her character’s potentially shadier nature, Louisa Clein, who plays her, previously said: ‘There is a lot still to explore with this character. Maya hints later on down the line that she has slightly dysfunctional parents, or certainly a mother figure that is lacking, which has created more of a desire in Maya to be adored and needed. There are things in her past that have created the person she is now.’
Things step up a gear when David makes a mess of Maya’s birthday by getting her a gift that lacks any heart before then spending the bulk of the day with his ex Tracy! Noticing this, Jacob drops his dad in it and seems pleased to see that Maya is upset with him.

Jacob then presents Maya with a much more thoughtful gift and is chuffed by her reaction. But as she pours a glass of champagne for the teenager, is she making a huge mistake – or are her actions deliberate? Has she already picked up on Jacob’s crush – and how might she react if he then gets ideas that there could be something romantic between them?

It looks like things are set to get murky but it remains to be seen if Maya is manipulative or merely naive.
